Sexually assaulted a schoolgirl in a shop.
A 40-year-old man, Karol Jaworski, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and obstructing a railway.
Jaworski approached the victim, who was wearing her school uniform, in a shop and made an inappropriate comment about her appearance. He then slapped her on the bottom, causing her pain.
In a separate incident, Jaworski was found walking along train tracks after missing a lift. This caused significant delays on the line near Port Talbot, south Wales, costing National Rail £30,749.
When confronted by police, Jaworski stated that he "does this in Poland all the time." He pleaded guilty to sexual assault and obstructing an engine or carriage of a railway.
Sentencing Jaworski, Judge Jeremy Jenkins expressed his disgust at the sexual assault, stating that "it's unacceptable for a young schoolgirl to be sexually assaulted in this way." He also criticized Jaworski's behavior on the railway, stating that his actions are not acceptable in Great Britain.
The victim, in a statement read to the court, described the impact of the assault, stating that she feels anxious about being in the town center and has been unable to return to school since the incident. She expressed feeling "disgusted and sickened" by the assault and cautious of older men.
Jaworski's actions on the railway caused significant delays for passengers, with trains held for 56 minutes. This resulted in a total of 375 minutes of delays and a cost of £30,749 to National Rail.
In mitigation, the court heard that the sexual assault was "short-lived" and Jaworski was heavily intoxicated at the time. He was also said to have left the train tracks as soon as he was asked.
