Sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman.

Man Attempts Suicide Before Sentencing for Sexual Assault

Kenny Jones, 38, was sentenced to two years in prison for sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in Caernarfon Crown Court. Jones had denied the offense but was convicted after a trial. He attempted suicide days before his sentencing, but the judge ruled that the severity of the crime warranted immediate imprisonment.

The court heard the victim was at a property on Anglesey on November 22, 2020, when Jones grabbed her arms, causing bruising, and attempted to kiss her despite her refusal. He also made a lewd comment towards her. Jones then left the property and stole a car without the owner's consent, despite lacking a driving license and insurance.

In a statement, the victim described how the assault had shattered her life, leaving her feeling embarrassed, guilty, and distrustful of men. She now avoids the area where the assault occurred and seeks counseling to cope with the trauma.

Jones' defense attorney, Dafydd Roberts, argued that his client was struggling with mental health issues, including the death of his son in 2010, a serious assault in 2017, and the recent suicide attempt. He requested a suspended sentence, suggesting that Jones could be rehabilitated.

However, the judge, Mr. Recorder Wyn Lloyd Jones, emphasized the lasting impact of the assault on the victim and ruled that a prison sentence was necessary. He sentenced Jones to two years in prison and imposed a ten-year restraining order preventing him from contacting the victim.
