Convicted Sex Offender Sentenced to Further Prison Term for Breaching Court Order
A convicted sex offender in Cornwall, Kevin Davis (60), is back in jail after being sentenced to an additional two and a half years in prison for violating a court order designed to prevent him from re-offending.
Davis was sentenced at Truro Crown Court on Tuesday, April 2, following his guilty plea to a breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) that occurred last year. His plea came just as his two-day trial for the offence was about to commence.
Davis had been residing in a bail hostel in Camborne after his release from HMP Channings Wood on August 17, 2023, where he was serving a previous sentence. Upon his release, monitoring software was installed on his laptop. On October 3, 2023, authorities were alerted to suspicious activity on the laptop linked to Davis.
A police examination of the laptop revealed that Davis had accessed a limited number of Category C indecent images of children. Furthermore, he had deleted search history from the device, a violation of the terms of his SHPO.
During the sentencing hearing, Davis was reminded of the terms of his SHPO, which were put in place to restrict his contact with children and rigorously monitor his internet activity. He was then sentenced to a new prison term of two and a half years.
In addition to the prison sentence, Davis must register as a Sex Offender indefinitely, and his laptop will be destroyed.
PC Mark Kutler-Pearce, from the Public Protection Unit based in Bodmin, stated: "Davis has a lengthy history of criminal behavior. After his release in August 2023, he was under strict monitoring by the police Public Protection Unit. The additional sentence imposed on Davis on April 2 has prevented a dangerous individual from committing further offenses against members of the public. We believe the sentence is just for the crime."
