Age: 43

Town: Isle of Wight

Convicted: 13/04/2017

3 Sex offences including the rape of an 18-year-old girl.

36-year-old Kevin Finch, branded an extremely dangerous offender, has been sentenced to life imprisonment, serving a minimum of 10 years, for 3 sex offences including the rape of an 18-year-old girl in Niton.

The former landscape gardener from Church Path, East Cowes, who traded as Greenpaws Landscaping, will also be added to the sex offenders register for life following sentencing at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Finch pleaded guilty to:

  • Rape of an 18-year-old woman in Niton on 7th October 2016
  • Indecent assault against a woman in Newport in 2003
  • Sexual assault against a 16-year-old girl in East Cowes in 2015

As previously reported, Finch was arrested following a horrific attack on an 18-year-old girl at Old Blackgang Road, Niton in October 2016.

According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Finch contacted the woman via Facebook, offering her cleaning work. He picked her up from Sandown High Street, intending to employ her for the day. Shockingly, he drove her to a secluded car park, punched her in the face causing a fracture to her eye socket, forced her into his van, and raped her.

Finch threatened to kill the woman if she told anyone. Before the attack, he had researched Isle of Wight school bus routes, secluded locations, and how to dispose of a body online.

The police investigation revealed two other victims of sexual assaults committed by Finch in 2003 and 2015.

In December 2003, he indecently assaulted a woman he grabbed from the street after she left Chicago Rock. He pushed her to the ground, pinned her down, before she escaped and ran to safety.

In 2015, Finch messaged a 15-year-old girl on Facebook, offering her handyman work. She worked for him several times before he sexually assaulted her.

Andrea Hills of the CPS stated: "Kevin Finch is an extremely dangerous offender who poses a very serious risk to women. He violently attacked a stranger and used social media to target young women, pretending to offer genuine employment opportunities."

"The victims' evidence and the thorough police investigation ensured a robust case, securing guilty pleas from Finch without trial. The victims showed incredible bravery, and I hope today's sentence offers them some comfort."

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Dave Brown, said: "Following the horrific sexual assault in Niton, we conducted a thorough investigation, identifying further offending by Finch. He pleaded guilty to all three offences."

"I hope the admission of guilt and today's life sentence provides closure for the victims so they can move on. Thankfully, these incidents are rare. The Isle of Wight remains a safe place to live and visit. Our thoughts are with all the victims at this time."
