Rapist jailed for attacks on sleeping women.

Former Scottish Government Security Guard Jailed for Eight Years for Raping and Sexually Assaulting Two Women

Khalid Alsrooji, 35, was sentenced to eight years in prison for raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while they were asleep. The attacks occurred at flats in Edinburgh after Alsrooji met the women on nights out.

Both victims woke to find themselves partially undressed with Alsrooji attempting to have sex with them. One victim later tested positive for drugs, although she stated she had not taken any. The 23-year-old victim, who did not remember leaving the venue before the attack, testified in the High Court in Edinburgh: "My next memory is waking up on a couch facing the wall in an unknown flat." She recounted telling her attacker, "No, stop," but feeling unable to resist due to exhaustion.

The victim reported the assault to the police after seeking medical attention.

Alsrooji, who had previously worked as a Scottish government guard and a nightclub doorman, denied the charges, but was found guilty. Judge Lord Weir highlighted the common features of the attacks, stating that Alsrooji had "taken advantage of his victims when they were in vulnerable circumstances."

Lord Weir emphasized that both victims were unknown to Alsrooji before the assaults. Defense solicitor advocate Krista Johnston acknowledged that Alsrooji, a Sudanese-born father of one, maintained his innocence, but was assessed as posing a medium risk of further offending.

Alsrooji was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
