21-Year-Old Sentenced for Sexual Offences Against Children
A 21-year-old man from Abercynon, Krzystof Abramowicz, was sentenced to four years and eight months in custody at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Monday, June 13. He pleaded guilty to 25 counts of sexual offences against 25 different child victims, some as young as nine years old.
Detectives from Tarian, the regional organised crime unit for southern Wales, identified Abramowicz as targeting children online in the Gwent and south Wales areas. He created sophisticated fake profiles posing as a 13-year-old girl, using popular apps like Snapchat and Instagram to entice children into committing sexual acts.
Tarian's Under-Cover Online team established Abramowicz's identity and discovered he regularly travelled between south Wales and Poland. Detective Inspector David Bancroft of Tarian stated, "This case highlights the vital partnership between Tarian and South Wales Police, demonstrating our commitment to protecting children."
Tarian passed the information to the South Wales Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT), who swiftly arrested Abramowicz at his workplace. A thorough investigation by POLIT detectives led to an early guilty plea and the subsequent sentencing.
Detective Inspector Bancroft added, "Tackling online child sexual exploitation is a crucial priority for law enforcement. We are pursuing more offenders and safeguarding more children than ever before."
All children identified in this case received support from specially trained officers from South Wales Police. The police acknowledge that they cannot single-handedly eliminate the demand for child abuse images and emphasize the need for a multi-faceted approach to prevent abuse.
Further efforts are required to reduce the availability of such imagery, provide support to individuals with inappropriate sexual interests in children, and raise awareness about the dangers of taking and distributing indecent images of children.
