Paedophile Breaches Court Order by Using Snapchat to Contact 15-Year-Old Girl

Kyle Smith, 31, of Cardiff, was sentenced to an additional 20 months in prison after breaching a court order by using Snapchat to communicate with a 15-year-old girl. Smith had previously been sentenced to four years imprisonment for seven counts of causing a child to engage in penetrative sexual activity.

Smith's original conviction involved coercing his victim into sending him explicit photos and threatening to share them with her family if she refused to meet him. He was subsequently placed under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which prohibited him from using applications or software that did not retain a history of communication.

On October 26, 2022, the 15-year-old girl reported to police that Smith had been communicating with her on Snapchat. Upon arresting Smith, police seized two mobile phones and a tablet. Smith claimed that he had been using Snapchat since 2021 and was unaware that it was a breach of his court order.

Despite this claim, Smith pleaded guilty to breaching the Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He has a history of criminal activity, including convictions for affray, assaulting police officers, harassment, and burglary.

Judge Matthew Porter-Bryant sentenced Smith to 20 months imprisonment, with half of the sentence to be served in custody before he is released on license.
