Violent and Manipulative Man Jailed for Horrific Abuse of Two Women

Laurence Patrick Leavy, 43, of Cledford Lane, Middlewich, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison, plus six years extended license, for multiple counts of rape and controlling and coercive behaviour.

The sentence was handed down at Chester Crown Court on Tuesday, December 19, following a trial that concluded on December 13.

The case came to light in May 2021 when one of Leavy's victims reported his abuse to Cheshire Police. She described him as charming when they first met, but his demeanor drastically changed, and he became abusive.

The victim detailed instances of verbal belittling and physical assault. She described an incident where Leavy lost his temper in the car, pulled over, dragged her from the vehicle, threw her into a field, and drove away, leaving her alone.

She also reported being forced into non-consensual sexual acts and multiple rapes.

When this victim came forward, police investigated further and discovered a second victim who also reported abuse at the hands of Leavy. This victim described verbal abuse that made her feel insecure, financial pressure caused by Leavy refusing to work, and forced sexual encounters.

The second victim also reported multiple assaults and rapes, including while she was pregnant.

Leavy was charged in December 2022. In addition to his prison sentence, he was also issued lifetime restraining orders against both victims and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
