Subjected teenage girl to a terrifying sex attack.
A young woman's bravery stopped a terrifying sexual assault in Thetford.
A 19-year-old man, Leon Campbell, was sentenced to an extended 10-year sentence for sexually assaulting a teenage girl on a secluded footpath in Thetford.
The victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was walking home at night when Campbell followed her and attacked her in a grassy area. She bravely fought back, biting Campbell and kicking him, preventing further assault.
Despite her courageous efforts, Campbell managed to assault her. The victim's statement detailed the lasting impact of the attack, including nightmares, sleeplessness, and anxiety. She now requires medication and struggles with the fear of being alone.
The court heard that Campbell was an "enigma" and that the attack appeared to be opportunistic rather than premeditated. However, the judge found him to be a dangerous offender posing a significant risk of further harm.
Campbell was ordered to serve four years in a young offenders institute followed by six years on license. He must also register as a sex offender indefinitely.
