Registered Child Sex Offender Jailed for Breaching SHPO

Leslie Thornton, 30, formerly of the Balby area of Doncaster, has been sentenced to three years and seven months in prison for breaching the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Thornton was convicted of multiple child sexual offences and child abduction in 2015 and sentenced to three years in prison. He was also made subject to a SHPO and notification requirements, which mandated him to inform the police of his personal details every 12 months.

Thornton's SHPO prohibited him from having any contact with children. However, an investigation into his phone records uncovered evidence of contact with a young girl, a fact he failed to disclose to officers from Doncaster's Violent Sexual Offender Registrar (ViSOR) unit.

Thornton later pleaded guilty to breaching his SHPO and two counts of failing to comply with notification requirements. He had also failed to comply with these requirements throughout 2022.

On Wednesday, January 24th, Thornton was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court.
