Convicted Sex Offender Jailed for Over Four Years After Bragging About Continuing Offenses
Lewis Parker, 23, of Westcliff Avenue, Westcliff, was sentenced to four years and four months in prison on Monday, July 1st, at Basildon Crown Court. The sentence follows proactive work by the Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) and Parker's own admissions of continued offending.
Officers visited Parker's residence on May 9th after receiving intelligence about his access to indecent images of children online. Parker, who was previously convicted and prohibited from owning certain devices, was arrested and his devices were seized for analysis.
Analysis of Parker's devices revealed that he had been engaging in conversations on "dark-web" chat rooms, discussing the trading of child pornography. In one conversation, Parker boasted about being "on the reg," referring to the sex offenders register, and seemingly bragged that his previous convictions had no impact on him.
Parker was subsequently charged with:
- Three counts of making indecent photographs of a child
- One count of possession of a prohibited image of a child
- Two counts of distributing an indecent photograph of a child
- One count of possession of an extreme pornographic image
- Four counts of breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order
- Four counts of failure to comply with notification requirements on the Sexual Offenders Register
On May 10th, Parker pleaded guilty to all charges. He was sentenced on July 1st to four years and four months in prison, and will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
