Former Hospital Cleaner Jailed for 14 Years for Rape and Sex Attacks
Mani Kurian, 50, of Eridge Road, Eastbourne, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a series of sexual offenses, including the rape of a 21-year-old woman near Eastbourne Pier and multiple sexual assaults at his workplace, Worthing Hospital.
Kurian was found guilty of rape, five sexual assaults, and assault by beating following a trial at Lewes Crown Court. The rape occurred in October 2014, while the other offenses took place between 2013 and 2015.
Sussex Police described Kurian as a "sexual predator" who targeted women both in public and at his workplace. Three of the sexual assaults occurred at Worthing Hospital, while another assault took place in Hampden Park, Eastbourne.
Detective Inspector Neil Ralph stated that Kurian's sentencing brings a successful resolution to a "long ordeal" for the victims involved. "Today's sentence brings a successful resolution to what has been a long ordeal for the victims involved," he said.
Kurian was sentenced to 12 years for the rape, with an additional two years for one of the sexual assault charges. He received two-year concurrent sentences for the remaining four sexual assault counts and a six-month concurrent sentence for the assault by beating.
