Marc Bear (38) Jailed for 27 Years for Sexually Abusing Children
Marc Bear, a 38-year-old man from Launceston, Cornwall, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for sexually abusing children.
Bear was found guilty of ten counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault, two counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of causing a person to engage in sexual activity following a trial that concluded in November. He was also given a year on extended licence, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and will be on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
Judge Carr stated at Truro Crown Court that Bear would pose a risk to children for the rest of his life. Bear initially received bail following his conviction to prepare for his sentence but absconded. He was later located in Somerset. The judge expressed concern over Bear's actions, stating: "That told me everything I need to know about your character."
Detective Constable Tim Barbery from the Public Protection Unit praised the victims for their courage and strength throughout the investigation, highlighting their crucial role in securing a conviction. He expressed hope that the sentence would bring some closure to the victims.
