Paedophile Mark Jones Jailed for Sexual Assault of Schoolgirl

Mark Jones, 53, has been sentenced to 32 months in prison at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for sexually assaulting a schoolgirl. The court heard that Jones had offered the girl £10 to undress, before touching her chest and sexually assaulting her.

Prosecutor Brian McKenna stated, "He asked her if she wanted to earn a tenner. She said she did. He undressed her. He touched her private area and touched her breasts."

Jones admitted to the assault, telling police he did not know why he had done it and expressing remorse. He pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a child.

Defense attorney Anis Ali described the incident as "unfortunate and inappropriate," emphasizing Jones's regret and the lack of physical injury to the victim. He highlighted the stigma attached to the conviction, stating Jones was "embarrassed and ashamed."

Judge David Fletcher, while acknowledging the incident as a "one-off," emphasized the seriousness of the crime. He stated, "You offered your victim 10 to enable you to do what is accepted by you with her. She was a child. You were a man of over 50. You accept the incident went on for 10 to 20 minutes. The facts of this case are decidedly unattractive. The evidence clearly demonstrates by the offering of some money there was a degree of grooming involved. You clearly decided on this occasion to take a massive risk. Today is the day when you have to pay the price for that."

In addition to the prison sentence, Jones was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and subjected to an indefinite restraining order prohibiting any contact with his victim.
