Scrap Metal Dealer Jailed for Sexually Abusing Teenager

Mark Rumbol, 58, of Hewelsfield in Wales, has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for sexually abusing a teenage girl in Rustington.

Rumbol, a scrap metal dealer, was found guilty of multiple charges including sexual assault, assault by penetration, and inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity. The abuse took place between 2020 and 2021, and was reported to police in March 2021.

At Lewes Crown Court, Rumbol was acquitted of rape but convicted of all other charges. He was sentenced on Friday, 26 January, and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life. A restraining order and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order were also imposed, significantly limiting his ability to offend in the future.

The victim in this case was supported by specialist officers throughout the investigation and prosecution. Sussex Police commended her bravery in coming forward and reporting the abuse.
