Paedophile Jailed for Six Years Despite Denying Abuse

Martyn Foster, 41, has been sentenced to six years in prison for sexually assaulting two young girls. Despite being convicted at trial, Foster continues to deny his crimes.

The court heard how Foster, formerly of Liskeard and most recently of Saltash, left both victims suffering psychologically as a result of his actions. One of the victims' mothers described how her daughter suffers from bedwetting and has had to be prescribed medication since the assault. The other victim no longer wants to participate in dance and swimming lessons and now showers with her underwear on.

During the sentencing hearing, the court also heard allegations that Foster threatened his victims' families, causing them to fear for their safety. However, Foster's defense lawyer, Ed Bailey, argued that Foster had led a blameless and hardworking life prior to the convictions, and that the biggest punishment was the separation from his own children.

Judge Simon Carr, in delivering the sentence, acknowledged the courage of one of the girls in speaking out immediately about the abuse, something rare in such cases. He emphasized the lasting impact of the assaults on the victims and their families, stating that it could take a lifetime for them to recover. He also highlighted Foster's continued denial of the crimes he was convicted of.

In addition to the prison sentence, Foster was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order and must sign the sex offenders register for life.
