Man Jailed for Child Sex Offences After Audio Recording Evidence

Matthew North, 28, from the Eastlands area of Rugby, was sentenced to five years and four months in prison at Warwick Crown Court on Monday (15 April) after pleading guilty to child sex offences.

North admitted to nine counts of penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15. The offences took place in the early 2020s at a house in the Rugby area.

A key witness, who suspected North was in a sexual relationship with the girl, secretly recorded the offending using an iPad. She then contacted the police, leading to North's arrest.

Initially, North denied the offences during police interviews. However, he later confessed after being presented with the audio recording and the victim's account.
