Disgraced Ex-Councillor Walks Free After New Child Abuse Charges Dropped

A disgraced former councillor whose political career was cut short when he was caught with child abuse images has walked free after a fresh criminal charge alleging he had downloaded more obscene material was dropped.

Convicted paedophile Michael Jamieson, who resigned from the Perth and Kinross Tory group following his arrest in 2017, was due to stand trial this week at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

However, the Crown Office confirmed that the new charges had been deserted, meaning they were no longer being pursued.

The decision to drop the charges has been met with criticism from some quarters, with concerns being raised about the potential for Jamieson to re-offend.

Jamieson was previously sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work and placed on the sex offenders register for five years after pleading guilty to possessing indecent images of children.
