Sexually abused vulnerable 14-year-old girl he abducted from a care home.
A 32-year-old man, Michael David Jones, has been jailed for three years and four months for sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in a care home.
Jones, who knew the girl as "Spike" after meeting her on Facebook, picked her up from the care home and drove her to Caernarfon, where he performed a sex act on her in the back of his car.
The girl, now 16, gave an impact statement to the court, claiming that the abuse had ruined her life and led to self-harming. She said she had been led to believe that Jones loved her and they would get together.
"The sex was horrific," she told the court. "My life has been destroyed and I ask myself almost every day if I will ever be myself or be happy again."
The incident occurred in November 2017, and the girl's iPhone revealed conversations with Jones, clearly showing she was 14 years old. She had absconded from the care home after exchanging texts with Jones and putting on makeup.
Care staff were not allowed to use physical restraint, and after the girl got into Jones' car, they set off in pursuit but lost her. However, they noted the registration number and reported it to the police.
Jones was arrested at his Gaerwen home just after 11 pm that night. Police seized the girl's phone and discovered she had referred to Jones as "Spike" and mentioned him speaking about fathering a child with her.
"She said she went with him because it was the only way she could get transport to Caernarfon," according to John Philpotts, prosecuting.
Jones dropped the girl off near the justice center after the sexual act, which had taken place near the police station. He told her not to tell anyone and to delete messages on her phone and smash it into pieces.
Judge Huw Rees criticized the "inexcusable delay" in the case, which was caused by police. Jones was arrested and interviewed in November 2017 but not charged until May 2018. The case involved grooming and the exchange of sexual images.
Elen Owen, Jones' defense barrister, stated that Jones, a hardworking plant operator with a young son, had lost his relationship and home because of what had happened. The girl had significant difficulties, and Jones' guilty plea was the best defense.
Judge Rees told Jones: "There was a significant degree of planning over nine days, grooming and targeting of a vulnerable individual."
Indefinite sexual harm and sex offenders' orders were imposed on Jones.
