Rotherham Man Pleads Guilty to Rape of 13-Year-Old Girl

Mohammed Imran Ali Akhtar, 42, has pleaded guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl in Rotherham in the early 2000s.

The prosecution was led by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) as part of Operation Stovewood, a major investigation by the National Crime Agency into child sexual abuse and exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.

Akhtar appeared in Sheffield Crown Court on October 17, 2023, where he admitted to two counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault. These offenses occurred between August 2001 and July 2002.

Akhtar repeatedly picked up the victim in his car, taking her to various locations before raping her. He groomed the young girl, supplying her with alcohol and drugs during their encounters.

The victim was led to believe she was in a relationship with Akhtar, who used threats to manipulate her. He would threaten to leave her stranded in unknown locations if she refused his sexual demands. On one occasion, when she declined, he forced her out of the car in the early hours of the morning, leaving her to walk for hours.

Akhtar is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for previous sexual offenses committed in 2018, which were part of a separate investigation under Operation Stovewood.
