Senior Doctor Naleen Thota Sexually Assaults Female Staff at Morriston Hospital

A senior doctor at a major Welsh hospital has been sentenced for sexually assaulting female staff members.

Naleen Thota, 55, attacked his victims when they were on duty at Swansea's Morriston Hospital. The assaults took place on separate occasions after Thota ensured he was alone with them.

Swansea Crown Court heard statements from the victims detailing the doctor’s offending and its impact on their lives. One woman described how Thota "wielded his position of power like a weapon to hurt me and silence me," adding that she feared she wouldn't be believed if she reported the assault. Another victim stated Thota's behavior was "predatory and calculating" and that he had groomed his victims.

The judge acknowledged the courage of the two complainants in coming forward and giving evidence against Thota. She called his actions a "gross and calculated abuse of power and position," emphasizing that his seniority and reputation within the hospital emboldened him to commit these crimes.

Thota, who has no previous convictions, denied wrongdoing but was found guilty at trial. He was sentenced to 21 months in prison suspended for two years, ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid work, attend a rehabilitation course, and abide by a 10-year restraining order. He will also be on the sex offenders register for the next decade.
