Hastings Man Jailed for Ten Years for Rape

Nathan Ackerley, 28, of School Road in Hastings, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for raping a vulnerable woman.

The incident occurred in October 2021 when Ackerley took the woman back to his home after a night out. He raped her as she slept, having cut her clothing. The victim woke up during the attack, managed to escape, and immediately went to a police station to report the crime.

Police officers provided support to the victim and arrested Ackerley on suspicion of rape. A search of his phone revealed pictures he had taken of the victim while she was asleep.

Ackerley was charged with rape, sexual assault by touching, sexual assault by penetration, and voyeurism. On Friday, 19 July, he was convicted of all charges. On Monday, 22 July, he was sentenced to ten years imprisonment, with a minimum period of two thirds.

In addition to the prison sentence, Ackerley was given a restraining order against the victim and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
