Man Sentenced for Child Pornography
A 29-year-old man, Nathan Bryant, has been sentenced for taking and possessing indecent images of children. Bryant, who resides in Lerwicks Burnside, admitted to the offense, which occurred between June 2014 and September 2020.
During a court hearing on Wednesday, it was revealed that a cybercrime analysis uncovered a significant number of images and videos on Bryant's devices. One particularly disturbing video, lasting seven minutes, showed Bryant actively accessing and viewing child abuse material.
The video, captured through screen recording software, contained images classified as category A, depicting penetrative sexual activity involving minors. Additionally, one category B image and several category C images were discovered.
The fiscal, Duncan Mackenzie, emphasized that the age of some of the children in the images was as young as one or two years old. He also highlighted that Bryant's claim that he had inadvertently accessed the material was contradicted by the evidence, which indicated he was actively seeking this type of content.
Bryant's defense attorney, Tommy Allan, acknowledged that his client understood the seriousness of the offense. The court ordered the forfeiture of Bryant's devices and continued his bail while reports are prepared. Bryant was also subjected to notification requirements under sexual offences legislation.
Sheriff Ian Cruickshank deferred sentence until March 7.
