Nathan Waddell Jailed for Distributing Child Abuse Images

Nathan Waddell, 30, has been jailed for two years after pleading guilty to distributing and possessing indecent images of children. Leeds Crown Court heard that Waddell engaged in "at least 19 conversations" over a six-week period on Telegram, sending videos to multiple people in a single chat. He also stored almost 1,000 images in a personal "library" depicting children as young as two being abused.

The National Crime Agency alerted West Yorkshire Police in August 2022 about images being uploaded by an account traced back to Waddell. He was arrested in November 2022 and police seized his iPhone, Apple MacBook, and a USB stick. They found 148 Category A images and videos, over 200 Category B images, and 570 Category C images, as well as 600 Category Six images.

Waddell admitted to the crimes and expressed remorse. His defense lawyer, Laurence Dilworth, stated that Waddell had experienced mental health problems, lost his job, and turned to pornography. He added that Waddell has sought help to address his sexual attraction to children.

In addition to the jail sentence, Waddell was placed on the sex offender register for 10 years and given a 10-year sexual harm prevention order to restrict his internet use. Judge Simon Batiste stated that the message must go out that distributing child abuse images will result in imprisonment.
