Businessman attempted to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex.
A married grandfather from Yorkshire, identified as Paul Cammidge, was sentenced to one year in prison after attempting to meet a 13-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.
Cammidge, a 64-year-old businessman, was lured into a trap set by paedophile hunters. He had been communicating with a decoy profile, believing it to be a 13-year-old girl. During their online interactions, Cammidge sent explicit pictures of himself, suggested watching pornography together, and even offered to travel to the girl's home.
He had initially claimed to be a "sugar daddy" on an adult website, describing himself as a "silver fox" and a "wealthy older man." Cammidge pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
The prosecution revealed that Cammidge had attempted to delete sexually explicit messages in the conversation, demonstrating his awareness of the wrongfulness of his actions. He was arrested after paedophile hunters visited his home and alerted the police.
In court, Cammidge expressed remorse for his actions, claiming he was struggling with alcohol abuse and had been trying to cope with his retirement. However, Judge Mark Bury delivered a stern sentence, emphasizing the gravity of the offense and the need to protect children.
Cammidge was ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years. The judge stated that "There's simply too much of this going on. In a civilised society, you simply can't get away with being 64 and contacting a 13-year-old girl for sex."
