Convicted Sex Offender Arrested After Absconding from Prison
Paul Marshall, 54, who was serving a life sentence for rape and wounding with intent, has been arrested after absconding from HMP North Sea Camp in November 2022.
Lincolnshire Police, along with Nottinghamshire Police, had been investigating Marshall's whereabouts since he was reported missing from the open prison near Boston on November 22.
Humberside Police issued an appeal last week, stating they believed Marshall "may now be in the Bridlington area" of East Yorkshire. He was subsequently arrested in the Humberside area.
Marshall had been sighted in Mansfield town centre and Doncaster prior to his arrest. Lincolnshire Police announced on Monday, April 17, "A 54-year-old man who was wanted after absconding from HMP North Sea Camp, in November, has been arrested. Thank you to everyone who shared our appeals."
Boston and Skegness MP Matt Warman previously commented on the incident, stating that "the fault lies with the system that puts people in the wrong kind of prison" after Marshall's absconding.
Warman later told The Lincolnite that, despite it being the first abscond since the open prison system's tightening, it was a "sign of failure". He emphasized the importance of considering various factors when evaluating those placed in open prisons.
