Paedophile systematically raped and sexually abused a schoolgirl over a long period.

Paedophile Jailed for 15 Years for Raping and Abusing Schoolgirl

A 51-year-old man, Peter Chitticks, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for systematically raping and sexually abusing a schoolgirl over a six-year period.

The abuse, which began in 1997 when the victim was only nine years old, included a horrifying range of rape and sexual assault, and continued until 2003. The victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, bravely reported the abuse to the police last year.

At Basildon Crown Court, Deputy Circuit Judge Gareth Davies delivered a strong sentence, labeling Chitticks' actions as treating the victim as a "sex toy." He stated that Chitticks would have to serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole.

Detective Constable Rob Smallcombe, the investigating officer, expressed his appreciation for the victim's resilience and the lengthy investigation. "This was a protracted inquiry and one which was very traumatic for the victim," he said. "She not only had to hear evidence in court, but had to recall the events from her childhood herself as part of the prosecution case. She shares our delight that Peter Chitticks will be behind bars for a very long time."

Chitticks, a warehouse worker, was found guilty last week on seven counts of indecency with a child, four counts of rape, and two counts of indecent assault. He had denied all charges. He will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.
