Silloth Man Jailed for Sexual Assault of Child

A SILLOth man has been jailed after he admitted sexually assaulting a child.

Peter Wood, 53, of Green Row, Silloth, was sentenced to two years in prison at Carlisle Crown Court. Wood, who expressed his "disgust" with his actions, pleaded guilty to the offense, which occurred in June.

His defense barrister attributed the crime to Wood's underlying alcohol issues.

In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Richard Archer also placed Wood on the Sex Offender Register for ten years and imposed a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.

Temporary Detective Constable Georgia Skelton of Carlisle & Wigton CID stated, "We are pleased to have secured a conviction in this case. Peter Wood showed no regard for the impact his actions would have on the victim. We commend the victim for their bravery in reporting the incident and assisting our investigation."

She further emphasized, "We are committed to bringing offenders to justice and ensuring they are held accountable. If you have been a victim of a sexual offense, please do not suffer in silence. We work with trusted partner agencies who can provide appropriate support."
