Man Jailed for Historic Sexual Offenses Against Children

Philip Tomlinson, 56, was sentenced to 20 years in prison at Chester Crown Court on Monday, September 23, 2023, for historic sexual offenses against children.

Tomlinson, formerly of Leeds and currently residing at HMP Altcourse, was found guilty following a week-long trial in June of three counts of rape of a girl under 16 and two counts of buggery.

The investigation began in February 2022 when a woman contacted Cheshire Police to report that she had been raped multiple times in the 1990s. The victim alleged that Tomlinson raped her on at least three occasions, once in Winsford and twice in North Wales.

Subsequently, Cheshire Police received another report from a male victim who stated that he had been raped by Tomlinson in the 1980s in the Northwich area.

Tomlinson was arrested and questioned about the offenses against both victims but denied the allegations. A thorough investigation followed, leading to charges being authorized against Tomlinson while supporting the victims throughout the process.

In addition to his prison sentence, Tomlinson is subject to an asexual harm prevention order and must register as a sex offender.
