Luton Sex Offender Jailed for Indecent Images
A registered Luton sex offender, Raj Brett (39), has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for downloading indecent images of children and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.
Brett was found guilty of possessing unauthorized electronic devices and indecent images, despite being prohibited from owning internet-connected devices without police permission.
He exhibited uncooperative and aggressive behavior towards authorities, raising concerns about potential reoffending. Investigators struggled to engage with Brett, who became unresponsive to their attempts to contact him.
Brett was eventually located in Suffolk and arrested for further breaches of his notification order. During a routine visit in November 2020, he refused entry, prompting police to obtain a warrant and search his home.
The search uncovered a laptop and phone, both undeclared by Brett. Forensic examination of the laptop revealed two indecent images of children and evidence of Brett's attempts to conceal his activity by using multiple hard drives and software to clear his internet history.
When confronted about the images, Brett laughed and claimed a friend had left one of the hard drives at his home. He later claimed this friend had died.
Brett refused to attend the court hearing and was sentenced on February 15th at Luton Crown Court. He will remain on the sex offenders register and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order upon release.
Investigating officer Deborah Simpson commented on Brett's blatant disregard for the law and his persistent attempts to operate in the shadows. She emphasized that Brett's actions pose a serious threat to the community and expressed gratitude for the court's custodial sentence.
