Southampton club promoter accused of rape and assault
A Southampton club promoter is accused of forcing two women to strip and participate in a sex game before raping one, according to court testimony. The prosecution alleges that this was not the first time the suspect, Reggi Said, had committed rape.
Prosecutor Matthew Jewell told Southampton Crown Court that in 2000, Said met a student who was a dancer. They and a friend went back to Said's flat, where the student ended up naked after having sex with the friend. After the friend went into the kitchen, the student fell asleep and woke up to find someone having sex with her. She then realized it was Said.
Mr. Jewell further stated that in 2005, Said assaulted another dancer he had known for a couple of years. The dancer went to Said's flat after being given alcohol and saw him taking cocaine. She woke up naked in his bed and he told her she had wanted to party and had taken drugs. In interviews, Said told police that both encounters involved sex that stopped short of intercourse and was fully consensual. He was not prosecuted for either incident.
Mr. Jewell then described an incident from last February, where Said allegedly threatened two women unless they took cocaine at his flat. The women consumed a significant amount of alcohol and participated in a truth or dare game. After one of the women fell asleep, Said allegedly took the second woman into his room under the pretense of talking about work. He then removed her underwear and had sex with her. In a prepared statement, Said claimed the women had taken the drugs voluntarily and the sex was consensual. He stated, "I am shocked by the allegations. I have not done anything wrong."
Said, of Lower Banister Road, Southampton, denies two counts of rape, two of supplying drugs, and one of sexual assault.
