Worcester Observer Editor Faces Jail for Child Pornography Charges
Rob George, editor of the Worcester Observer, has been charged with three counts of making indecent images of children and faces a potential jail sentence. The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges at Worcester Magistrates Court on February 15th.
The charges stem from the discovery of images on George's devices, including one category A image (the most serious level), two category B images, and 36 category C images. The images were found to have been made between March 7, 2014, and October 14, 2021, in Bromsgrove.
Prosecutor Lauren Millichip highlighted the aggravating factor of the children's age and vulnerability, ranging from one to eight years old. She also noted the presence of moving images within a video file.
George's defense attorney, James McAulay, requested a pre-sentence report to be completed before sentencing. Magistrates, acknowledging the seriousness of the charges, declined jurisdiction and transferred the case to Worcester Crown Court.
George was granted unconditional bail and ordered to attend his sentencing on March 15th. Magistrates indicated that all options, including custody, would be considered during the sentencing process.
George was also immediately required to register as a sex offender at Worcester Police Station. He is listed as the editor of the Worcester Observer, Malvern Observer, and Evesham Observer on their respective websites. He has also worked as a reporter for the Bromsgrove Standard.
