Nottingham Man Jailed for Cyber Crimes
A Nottingham man, Robert Davies (32), has been sentenced to 26 months in prison for a series of cyber crimes, including illegally accessing victims' devices to spy on them and collect indecent images.
Davies came to the attention of the National Crime Agency (NCA) in 2019 after purchasing cybercrime tools, including crypters and remote administration tools (RATs). He was also identified as a customer of weleakinfo, a marketplace selling stolen credentials.
Davies infected victims' phones and computers with malicious software disguised by crypters to bypass antivirus detection. He then used the RATs to remotely access their devices, stealing sexual images and spying on a teenage girl through her webcam, creating indecent images.
Officers recovered 27 indecent images and videos of children, along with evidence of Davies using fake online profiles to contact victims on messaging apps and attack their devices through links.
The NCA identified and visited over 30 victims during the investigation. Davies was arrested three times between 2019 and 2021, facing further charges as the scale of his offending became clear.
Davies pleaded guilty to 24 Computer Misuse Act offences, voyeurism, possessing and making indecent images of children, and possessing extreme pornographic images.
Andrew Shorrock, Operations Manager from the NCA's National Cyber Crime Unit, said: "Davies had amassed a cyber criminal's toolkit. He was using these tools to break into people's devices, spy on them, and steal naked images for his own gratification. The fact that at least one victim was a teenager and we found child sexual abuse material on his computer is disturbing. Reducing the availability of cybercrime tools is a key focus for the NCA."
