Sex offender jailed for assaulting vulnerable victim

Robert Denny, 37, of Bondfield Crescent, Wombwell, has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for sexually assaulting a vulnerable victim at his home in July 2020.

Sheffield Crown Court heard that the victim had visited Denny's house with friends for what she believed to be a celebratory event. She was wearing loose-fitting clothing due to a fake tan, which Denny exploited.

Judge David Dixon said Denny "took advantage" of the victim, "preying on her" by touching her inappropriately. He described Denny's actions as "squeezing her bottom in an inappropriate way" and then escalating to "picking her up and touching her bottom with two hands, and then ran his hand up to her breasts." He emphasized the victim's vulnerability.

Judge Dixon stated that the ordeal had a significant impact on the victim. Denny was convicted of three counts of sexual assault and sentenced to 12 months for one offense, two months for the second, and a concurrent one-month sentence for the third.

In addition to the jail term, Judge Dixon imposed a sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order prohibiting Denny from contacting the victim.
