Physiotherapist Sentenced for Sexual Assault

A Midlands physiotherapist has been jailed for sexually assaulting a patient. Robert Merfyn Williams, 66, denied the charge but was convicted by a jury at Shrewsbury Crown Court following a two-day trial in December 2024.

The assault occurred when the victim, who sought treatment for knee pain, visited Williams' practice in Mardol, Shrewsbury. Williams was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment and ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Detective Constable Nick Williams of West Mercia Police praised the victim's bravery in coming forward. "I commend the courage of the victim in this case to come forward and for her resilience and determination over the last couple of years as she waited for the trial to take place," he said. "I am pleased with the court result and sentencing and I hope the knowledge that police will take such allegations seriously and will do their best to bring offenders of sexual crimes to justice, will give other victims the confidence to come forward."
