Paedophile Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Schoolgirl in Graveyard

Robert Osbourne, a registered sex offender, was sentenced to 35 months in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a Stourbridge graveyard.

On October 22, 2021, Osbourne approached a group of children at the graveyard of St Mary's Church in Old Swinford. After making conversation with the group, he persuaded the victim to move away from her friends by asking her to show him where the water tap was.

Osbourne then proceeded to touch her sexually. The girl reported the incident a few days later, and the 48-year-old was arrested shortly after.

Osbourne, of Green Street, Stourbridge, pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a female over 13 and breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He was sentenced on November 10 at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Det Con Adrian Jackson, from the Sandwell and Dudley Child Abuse Investigation Team, praised the girl's bravery in reporting the assault and encouraged other victims of sexual abuse to come forward.

"You will be listened to, you will be believed, and you will be supported - from your initial contact all the way to court," Jackson said.

Osbourne's previous convictions include taking pictures up women's skirts on trains and buses. He was previously jailed for four years in 2016, but this sentence was reduced to three years and two months on appeal.

West Midlands Police urged victims of sex attacks to come forward and seek help. "If you have been a victim of sexual assault, or think you know someone who has, there are a range of options available to you. Visit our website for more information about your options," the police stated.
