Man Sentenced for Brutal Attack on Fellow Inmate

Robert Reynolds, 29, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a horrific attack on a fellow inmate at HMP Winchester.

Reynolds was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of rape, and sexual assault following a five-day trial at Salisbury Crown Court. The attack occurred in July 2021, when Reynolds, a prisoner at the time, poured boiling water from a kettle onto the victim, a man in his 20s.

The scalding water caused burns to the victim's back and face. Reynolds then proceeded to punch and kick the victim before raping and sexually assaulting him, the jury heard. The victim was initially treated at the prison before being transferred to a specialist burns unit for further medical care. He later disclosed the sexual offenses to authorities.

Despite being released from prison, the victim continues to grapple with the physical and emotional trauma of the attack. Reynolds, currently incarcerated at HMP Bullingdon, was sentenced on Wednesday, December 13th, at Winchester Crown Court.

Detective Sergeant Harry Wilson, speaking after the sentencing, stated: "This was a horrific attack on a vulnerable man in a prison. While the victim has since left prison, he continues to deal with the physical and mental impact of what happened to him. This was a difficult and long investigation, and I hope this shows that we will work closely with the prison to investigate any criminal offenses that occur there."
