Convicted Sex Offender Jailed for Breaching Orders
A convicted sex offender has been jailed for breaching his sexual harm prevention order and failing to notify the police about his whereabouts.
Robert Riley, 32, was convicted of possession of indecent images of children in November 2020 and sentenced to a five-year sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offenders register.
However, Riley pleaded guilty to four breaches of his sexual harm prevention order and four offences of failing to notify in relation to the sex offenders register. He was sentenced to three years and 10 months in prison.
The court heard that Riley had formed relationships with three women, all of whom had children, over a four-month period. The women were unaware of Riley's offending history, and he used a different name when forming two of the relationships.
Riley also failed to notify the police when he stayed at addresses where children resided for more than 12 hours and seven days, respectively.
Three of the breaches of his sexual harm prevention order involved Riley trying to hide his relationships from his offender managers by deleting his internet history. The fourth breach was being found in possession of an internet device which he hadn't declared.
Riley's prison sentence also included a re-sentencing for the offence he was initially given a community order for in November 2020. His sexual harm prevention order period was extended from five years to seven years.
DC Adam Weaver of Lancashire Police's West MOSOVO (Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders), said: "Robert Riley several times breached the orders and notification requirements which the court had placed on him. We monitor sexual offenders in the community and won't hesitate to put them back before the courts if they breach and ignore the orders imposed."
