Barrister chuckled after raping his Tinder date.

Barrister Jailed for Rape After Tinder Date Attack

A barrister who said "I shouldn't laugh" after raping his Tinder date has been jailed for four years. Robin Jacobs, 39, was convicted of the attack after the woman screamed at him to stop at his London flat in 2017.

The couple had been on two dates prior to the rape. After a lunch date in September, they returned to Jacobs' flat and had consensual sex. However, Jacobs then forced the woman to participate in a sex act against her will, ignoring her screams to "get out."

Jacobs, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), denied raping the woman, claiming he would have stopped immediately if she had asked him to. After being convicted, he shouted "I didn't do it. I was telling the truth. Oh my God." from the dock.

Judge John Hillen acknowledged Jacobs' ASD but stated that his belief that the woman consented was "wholly unreasonable." The judge also said, "It gives the court no pleasure to sentence anyone to terms of imprisonment and in this particular case, with a man of good character, of exemplary character, a high standing in his profession, to have to sentence you as I must, and as you know I must, to a term of imprisonment is a sad event."

The prosecution argued that Jacobs' ASD did not impact his understanding of consent. Jacobs himself insisted that he would have stopped if the woman had told him to, stating, "I thought she was absolutely fine. I thought she knew what I was doing."

Jacobs' conviction has likely ended his career as a barrister. He must register as a sex offender for life.
