Former Colliery Security Guard Jailed for 18 Years for Sexual Offences Against Boys
Ronald Preddy, 73, of Dunraven Street, Glyncorrwg, in Port Talbot's Upper Afan Valley, has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexual offences against boys. Preddy, described by the judge as a "remorseless sexual predator," was found guilty by a Swansea Crown Court jury of offences including rape and indecent assault dating back to the 1990s.
The trial heard evidence of Preddy's crimes against two boys, one set of offences occurring in the 1990s and the other more recently. Preddy, who worked as a security guard at a coal mine until his retirement, used bribes as low as 50p and threats to encourage children into sexual acts.
Judge Huw Davies QC, who sentenced Preddy, stated that he had shown "no remorse whatsoever" and had previously been convicted of similar offences in 2004, receiving an eight-year prison sentence. Preddy's history includes three appearances at Swansea Crown Court for sexual offences, each time denying any wrongdoing.
Preddy was given a 21-year extended prison sentence, with 18 years to be served in custody. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life.
