Hampshire Paedophile Dies in Prison After 25-Year Sentence

Ronald Dean, a Hampshire man convicted of 25 counts of sexual offences spanning over 50 years, has died in prison at the age of 83.

Dean was pronounced dead at Albany Prison on the Isle of Wight, with authorities believing the cause of death to be natural. He was found deceased in the prison healthcare wing.

A Prison Service spokesman confirmed that the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Dean received a 25-year sentence at Southampton Crown Court following his conviction for 24 sexual allegations involving seven victims aged between three and 16 years old.

During the trial, jurors heard how Dean manipulated and abused his victims by bribing them with gifts, sweets, money, and even alcohol to satisfy his desires and ensure their silence. One victim was so traumatized by her experience that she attempted suicide. Another girl endured repeated abuse, while a third was specifically told not to disclose the abuse, even after Dean's death.

Dean's crimes were ultimately uncovered when one victim bravely confided in a school nurse, who subsequently reported the abuse to the police. This sparked an investigation that revealed the extent of Dean's depravity.

The great-grandfather from Fryern Close, Chandlers Ford, was found guilty after a three-week trial of all 24 sex charges, as well as an additional charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice by persuading one victim to retract her allegations.
