Leighton Buzzard Man Jailed for Grooming Teenage Girl Online

A 60-year-old man from Leighton Buzzard has been sentenced to three years in prison for grooming a teenage girl online and attempting to meet her for sex.

Ronjohn Bhowmick, of Miletree Court, befriended a girl he believed to be 14 years old on Facebook, engaging in conversations about school and homework before transitioning to sexually explicit messages via text and WhatsApp.

He then arranged to meet the girl at a hotel, booking a room with the intention of having sex with her. Upon his arrest at his home, Bhowmick claimed he was "just being silly" and "sending messages."

At Luton Crown Court on Wednesday, Bhowmick pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a girl under 16 years of age following grooming. He will also be subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order upon release.
