Cheerleading Coach Rosanna Awan Jailed for 10 Years for Child Sexual Abuse

Rosanna Awan, a former cheerleading coach, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for repeatedly abusing a 13-year-old girl.

Awan, now 34, abused her position of trust with the child when she was in her 20s. She inappropriately touched the victim on multiple occasions. The abuse came to light when the victim reported it to Leicestershire Police in 2019.

In October 2024, Awan stood trial at Leicester Crown Court where she was found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. She received her sentence on December 4th, 2024.

Detective Constable Catherine Anderson, who led the investigation, praised the victim for coming forward and encouraged anyone who has experienced similar abuse to report it. “This case involved a person in a position of trust taking advantage of a person in their care, and Awan’s behaviour towards her young victim was predatory,” Detective Constable Anderson stated.

Along with the prison sentence, Awan is subject to a 10-year restraining order and a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order. She will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
