Sex Offender Jailed for Six Years After Raping Two Women He Met Online

Ryan Connor, 30, of Longley Road, Longton, has been sentenced to six years in prison for raping two women he met through the dating app, Plenty of Fish.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard that Connor met his victims on the app and invited them back to his house, where they consensually got into bed and kissed him.

However, despite the women making it clear they did not want to engage in full sexual intercourse, Connor proceeded to rape them, prioritizing his own sexual desires.

The court was informed that there was a 38-month gap between the two attacks.

One of the victims described the assault as leaving her feeling "sick, sore and disgusting." In a statement, she shared: "I felt petrified. I felt safe when I got home. I woke up in the night crying in my sleep. I felt it was my fault but I know deep down it was not. There still isn't a day that goes by that I do not think about it. I feel scared and lonely. I am scarred for the rest of my life."

Darron Whitehead, Connor's defense attorney, acknowledged that "there are no winners in this case." He pointed out that messages exchanged between his client and the victims were "flirtatious" and "two-way," suggesting that both parties showed initial attraction.

Whitehead also emphasized that Connor's current partner stands by him. He stated, "It was not just him coming on strong. Both indicated an immediate attraction to him and him an immediate attraction to them. He was using Plenty of Fish to meet people for short casual relationships. He made that perfectly clear to both girls straight away. Both agreed to meet him and both got in his car. They were not threatened with violence. No violence was used."

The court heard that both women had explicitly stated their unwillingness to engage in full sexual relationships before going to Connor's house.

Judge David Fletcher stated, "The sexual touching by you started almost immediately when you entered your home. But both followed you willingly up to the bedroom and both got into bed and sexual activity of a less serious type started. There was kissing with tongues and that was reciprocal on the part of you and both of those women."

Connor has been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register for life.
