Teenage Sex Offender Jailed for Communicating with a Child

An 18-year-old teenage sex offender, Ryan Walker, has been sentenced to 14 months in youth detention after being found guilty of communicating with a child.

At Carlisle Crown Court on Thursday, Walker pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communication with a child and causing a child to watch an indecent image. He also admitted to failing to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders register.

During the investigation, Cumbria Police seized Walker's phone and discovered undeclared accounts. Detective Constable Anna Ritson explained, "Officers located a number of online usernames and a new passport which had not been notified to police by Walker, who was well aware of his notification requirements. Also located were messages exchanged between Walker and a child."

Det Con Ritson emphasized the police's commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals: "Our main priority is to protect vulnerable people from sexual harm, and we work hard to monitor and manage people who are subject to such orders."
