Basingstoke Man Jailed for Rape and Sexual Assault
A 23-year-old man from Basingstoke, Samuel Tweddle, has been sentenced to seven years and six months in prison for rape and other sexual offenses. The conviction occurred on Thursday, December 17 at Winchester Crown Court.
Tweddle was found guilty on all five charges, including one count of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of witness intimidation. The crimes took place in the early hours of Sunday, July 5 in a car located on the Houndmills industrial estate in Basingstoke.
The victim reported the offenses on the same day and received support from specialized officers. DNA evidence played a crucial role in securing Tweddle's conviction.
Detective Constable Craig Ferguson, of Basingstoke CID, stated, "This was a vicious and predatory attack. Sexual offenses are treated very seriously by Hampshire Constabulary, and we will investigate, charge, and convict criminals responsible for such offending. The victim has shown great courage throughout this process, and I hope that she can now move on from this terrible ordeal."
