Sex offender back behind bars after he met a woman with two children on two occasions.

Sex Offender Jailed for Meeting Woman and Her Children

Scott Simpson, 30, has been sentenced to 23 months in prison after breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) by meeting a woman and her two young daughters on multiple occasions.

Simpson was made subject to the SHPO in 2014 following a conviction for engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. Despite this, he met with the woman and her six and three-year-old daughters on February 12 and 19, spending time with them at his home.

The woman, unaware of Simpson's past offenses and the SHPO, was unaware of the risks involved in allowing her children to interact with him.

During a police visit on March 31, Simpson initially denied having a mobile phone, claiming to use his partner's phone. However, officers discovered his hidden internet-enabled phone in a bin area.

Simpson pleaded guilty to three charges of breaching the SHPO. In mitigation, his defense attorney argued that Simpson had not offended between 2014 and 2019 and had shown progress. However, the judge, Graeme Smith, emphasized Simpson's high risk of re-offending and the seriousness of his actions.

Judge Smith stated that Simpson's "poor response to previous supervision" and his high risk of causing harm warranted a prison sentence, emphasizing the need to protect the public from further harm.
