Man Jailed for Sexually Abusing Child
Shaun Mather, 23, has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to sexually abusing a child on multiple occasions. The abuse took place over several years before being reported to the police in May 2020.
During a police interview, Mather declined to comment. However, following a thorough investigation by Nottinghamshire Police, he pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and three counts of sexual activity with a child.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, Mather, of Alma Hill, Kimberley, was sentenced to six years in prison and placed on the sexual offenders register. He was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which will strictly restrict his behavior upon release.
Detective Constable Emily Bucklow of Nottinghamshire Police's Public Protection Team stated: "The victim in this case suffered considerable distress over a long period of time, and I am pleased her abuser has now been brought to justice. This case demonstrates that the time elapsed since the offense does not diminish its importance. When individuals report cases like this, we will investigate them with the same professionalism, compassion, and determination to uncover the truth."
Detective Constable Bucklow continued: "I hope this case serves as a reminder to other victims that it is never too late to report what happened to them."
