Man Jailed for Sexually Assaulting Teenager and Breaching Restraining Order
Simon Barlow, 39, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenager and breaching a restraining order against another woman.
Prosecutor Alexandra Carrier told Mold Crown Court that Barlow, of Connah's Quay, sexually assaulted the teenager, who was over the age of 16. The assault involved sexual touching over her clothing.
In a victim impact statement, the teenager said the sexual assault has "opened her eyes to the real world" and caused her significant distress. She revealed that she attempted suicide as a result of the incident and other concerns.
The other woman, who was subject to the restraining order, said in her statement that she has experienced panic attacks, flashbacks, and constantly feels on edge. She is always looking over her shoulder due to the fear Barlow has instilled in her.
Dafydd Roberts, defending Barlow, stated that his client has struggled with alcohol and drug addiction. The court heard that Barlow had consumed vodka, Bailey's, and cocaine on the day of the sexual assault. Roberts added that Barlow is now thinking more clearly while on remand and is "outraged" by his actions.
Judge His Honour Rhys Rowlands sentenced Barlow to 14 months in prison for the sexual assault and a consecutive 10 months for breaching the restraining order. There was no separate penalty for sending the threatening communication.
The judge also imposed a five-year restraining order prohibiting Barlow from contacting either victim. Additionally, Barlow must comply with sex offender notification requirements for ten years.
