Rapist pounced on drunk girl, 14, in woods then abandoned her in snow.

A 19-year-old man, Spencer Smith, has been convicted of raping a vulnerable 14-year-old girl in the woods.

The incident occurred on February 1, 2019, in Newmains, North Lanarkshire. The girl, who was intoxicated after attending a hen party, met Smith and was led into the woods known as The Bing.

The victim attempted to resist Smith but he overpowered her. After the assault, Smith left her in the snow without her trainers, forcing her to call for help.

Smith, a first offender, was found guilty at the High Court in Glasgow. During the trial, the prosecution argued that Smith knew the girl was incapable of consenting due to her intoxication, but persisted with the assault nonetheless.

The victim was found to be three times over the legal drink driving limit. She told officers that she felt "dizzy and woozy" after consuming alcohol at the hen party.

Smith, from Wishaw, will be sentenced next month. He was also placed on the sex offenders register, with the duration to be determined at the sentencing.
